AP Limited Editions has launched a new collection of exquisite Maki-e pens at remarkably competitive prices having paid heed to the customers – fountain pen connoisseurs who have long demanded that APLE’s masterpieces are offered to them at price points that do not challenge their affordability! These pens range in price from US$4500 to US$6500 and are Maki-e pens with extensive use of Raden craft.  The collection was introduced in 2022-23. Needless to say, the pens bear testimony to the exacting standards of creativity and craftsmanship for which AP Limited edition pens are sought after by the most discerning collectors. It will not be out of place to mention here that the creation of these pens calls for backbreaking, seemingly endless periods of concentrated, almost super-human effort. They also demand inputs of the highest purity and unique weather conditions particular to specific regions in Japan which have all been strictly adhered to by AP Limited Editions, which naturally leads one to wonder as to how these pens are being offered at price points that are so unbelievably attractive.

The new range of pens in this mid-priced Maki-e collection all come in limited edition series of 18 pens.  Bearing testimony to AP Limited Editions continuing saga of creative excellence, two from the collection have been recently nominated for the BEST URUSHI ARTS PEN 2023 AND THE BEST FINE ART PEN 2023. These nominations are based on Reader’s Choice, with the Awards constituted and conferred by the Pen World Magazine, which needs no introduction. Suffice it to say, the Awards are widely considered to be of equal weightage to, a fountain pen equivalent of an Oscar or a Grammy.

CONTINUITY

AP LIMITED EDITIONS

Continuity is a tribute to artisans and artists that overcome the challenges of change to keep heritage art forms alive, crafting new dimensions of experience and beauty. Crafted with Green abalone shells highlighted with white Mother of Pearl and finished to perfection in Tsuya-age techniques that create a surface that radiates a glow like aura.

These are examples of Maki-e with Raden craft. The fountain pens offered with EF, F, M, B and flex nibs, all made of 14K Gold.

CARP IN LOVE

The other pen from the series that has made it to the coveted list of nominations is an elegantly crafted Maki-e Lacquer Art rendition of two golden Carps enraptured in a romantic moment as they glide through undulating waves of deep luminescent waters. Crafted in brilliant Urushi colors with a mirror like shine, this masterpiece exemplifies Maki-e techniques using gold powders and Raden craft with crushed Abalone shells, which work together to craft a fine writing instrument, offered in various gold nib grades.

Other pens in this collection include:

Playful Poppies, Iridescent Iris, Transitions in Abalone, Transitions, Red and Raden, Magical Mother of Pearl, Radiant Raden, Sparkle, and Tantalizing Triangles.
